Panasonic HDC-SD600K 3MOS High-Def Camcorder 2010
Overview
Panasonic have recently introduced a cut down model of their flagship 700 series with the Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD camcorders.
For those looking for the best family camcorder on a restricted budget, we review what may be one of the best low cost hd camcorders of 2010, the new Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD camcorders, which offer all the features of the 700 series except for the manual controls of the focus and iris, and without the viewfinder. The result is a slimmer more portable HD camcorder with a lower price tag.
The Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD video cameras high-sensitivity 3MOS system has achieved 7.59 million effective motion image pixels (2.53 megapixels x 3). This new image sensor offers beautiful images with significantly better colour quality, detail and gradation than the 1MOS sensor system.
Latest innovations in the Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD video cameras, the large-diameter F1.5 Leica Dicomar Lens, newly developed Crystal Engine Pro, and the high-sensitivity sensors have improved the efficiency of light gathering, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one-half to provide users with bright, low-noise recording even in dim lighting.
The Panasonic HDC-SD600K digital video cameras new 1080/50p recording (Full-HD, 1920 x 1080, 50 progressive recording) conveys about twice the information of 1080i (interlace) recording to produce the ultimate beauty in image quality, exceeding even conventional Full-HD images.
It minimizes afterimages and flickering caused by subject motion and renders crisp, detailed images. 64GB SDXC card can record approximately 27 hours 30 minutes of 1920 x 1080i High Definition video in HE mode, and approximately 5 hours 20 minutes of 1920 x 1080p full High Definition video in 1080/50p mode.
Power Optical Image Stabilisation in action
The O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which uses gyro-sensors to detect hand-shake and moves a corrective lens to adjust the optical axis and eliminate blurring, has further evolved.
While the conventional O.I.S. system could not sufficiently eliminate low-frequency hand-shake, the new POWER O.I.S. in the Panasonic HDC-SD600K digital video cameras is able to correct it about five times more effectively. The new O.I.S. also features an Active mode to assure clear, beautiful images across the entire range from wide angle to telephoto.
The 12x optical zoom lens of the Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD camcorders is further enhanced by Intelligent Resolution Technology in the Crystal Engine Pro image-processing circuit, to produce the new 18x Intelligent Zoom. The new zoom achieves even greater image detail.
The Panasonic HDC-SD600K HD video cameras are also equipped with a 35mm* wide-angle lens that is ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors. * 35mm-lens equivalent. Intelligent Auto with Face Recognition
The iA function includes Face Recognition feature that recognizes the faces of previously registered subjects, and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure for those special people.
It continues to track the subject as he or she moves anywhere within the LCD frame, making it ideal for video shooting. It is extremely useful for capturing someone’s face in a group.
Names can also be registered and displayed on the LCD of the Panasonic HDC-SD600K digital video cameras while shooting. A total of six people can be registered, and up to three people at a time can be detected when shooting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Quality and Excellent low light performance, 19 July 2010
By Raju Cherian "R Cherian" (UK) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Panasonic SD600 Full HD 1920x1080p (50p) Camcorder with 3MOS Sensor and SD Card Recording - Black (Electronics)
Next to or better than the broadcast quality videos. Words can't explain how good the video shot at 1080/50p. Colours are very real. I have owned 3 camcorders in the past from Sony and Canon and I would say this at 100 times better. Seeing is believing, go for it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bought for kids sports day, 11 Jun 2010

I bought this camcorder after seeing the reviews on the internet (simplydv/trustedreviews)
Although a bit more expensive than usual, I wanted something that would be futureproof so I could record my son's sports day and play back when he's older.
Playing back on my Samsung HDTV, the picture is absolutely stunning and I found the camcorder not only small enough to fit in my pocket, but really easy to use.
Would definitely recommend to others.
Great piece of kit, 5 July 2010

Once again Amazon have excelled themselves.
Ordered Friday 2nd July delivered Monday 5th July using free delivery.
My initial thoughts on the Panasonic HDC-SD600 camcorder.
For a 'simplified' version of the SD700 it sure has a lot of features that I'll never use.
Using full auto (iA) produces an absolutely fabulous picture quality.
I won't use the top recording mode because I have no way of playing back the videos. I'm using the next setting down and I think the reproduction is superb, I can't praise it enough.
I thought the picture from my old Panasonic NV-S90(S-VHS-C) were good, but these are so much better.
I can't imagine how good it must be if you are able to use the full HD setting.
The only thing that I might miss is the viewfinder. I'm a bit of a Ludite in that respect.
I would never buy a still camera without a viewfinder, but I didn't think it worth paying the extra £120 or so for the SD700, just to get a viewfinder.
I know it has some other features too, but nothing that I'll ever use.
Friends tell me I won't miss the viewfinde once I get used to using a screen instead. We'll see.
I am finding the touch screen a bit of a chore, but that's probably because I've never used one before.
On the few occasions that I might want manual control, it seems to be available with this, once I learn what buttons to press.
At the moment I'm using the 4gb SDHC (2) card that I use in my stills camera.
It's working fine and I get 30 minutes recording at the setting that I'm using.
I will be buying something a bit bigger, but no bigger than 16gb and I'll be looking for SDHC (4 or 6) just to be sure it can cope. I'm a funny sort, I would sooner have several smaller cards than one big one. I always worry the the card will die and I'll loose everything. This way I only loose the contents of one card.
Unless you really need full manual control this will do everything that you want.
If my opinion changes when I've had longer to use it I will update this review. For now though, I'm a very happy 65-year-old bunny.
